Who is this route for?
Do you want to take an exciting route to the point of visiting volcanoes, natural viewpoints of the Volcanic Zone, Romanesque churches and a waterfall? Well, this route is made for you!
4x4 Fontpobre route
We leave Santa Pau heading towards the Roca Negra Volcano, where we stop to get our bearings and tell some anecdotes about this volcano.
Next we go up towards the Fontpobre Volcano, located at about 650 m above sea level. To get there we will go up an authentic 4×4 road.
Once at the top and from the natural viewpoint, we can delight in an exceptional view, which takes us through the Pyrenees mountain range, the Canigó massif, to the Gulf of Roses (in the Mediterranean), without neglecting the mountains that form the Alta Garrotxa.
This route also invites us to eat typical garrotxí, in one of the natural places that the Natural Park of the Volcanic Zone has in store for us.
The route continues through the Sant Martí Valley, the Salto de Can Batlle and ends in Santa Pau.
Tips for the day of the route
On all our exciting 4×4 tours, it is essential to take off comfortable shoes. If the route includes a hike, we recommend taking off good boots or hiking shoes.
During this amazing kind of 4×4 route, we will cross rivers and streams that will often have us jumping from stone to stone. It is likely that, at some point, we will end up with one foot in the water. Therefore, taking off a spare pair of socks is a great idea. It is also useful to have some water shoes to cross the rivers and enjoy the pools.
Don’t forget to add warm and rain clothing to your backpack, as the weather in the mountains can be very unpredictable.
